Summer camp. Field trips. After-school sports. Senior prom. Music lessons. School pictures.
These kinds of extracurricular activities help children learn social skills, build confidence and just have fun. But too often, foster children miss out of these opportunities. While foster parents get aid to reimburse them for expenses, payments provide a basic standard of living – and not much else. Children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect deserve better than the loneliness that comes from not participating in the same activities are their peers. Your gift provides the “little extras” that are so important to a child.

Heart Gallery
The Heart Gallery of Sacramento is a collaboration between volunteers from the Sacramento Region, Sacramento State, Sacramento County Child Protective Services, Sierra Adoption Services, Lilliput Children’s Services, and Sacramento Court Appointed Special Advocates Program, Inc.
The Heart Gallery is a collection of professional photographs of children awaiting adoption. Photographs are designed to capture the spirit and personality of each child. It was created for the specific purpose of helping place older children for adoption, including those with siblings, special needs, or otherwise hard to place.
The original Heart Gallery was the inspiration of Diane Granito, an adoptions recruiter for the New Mexico Department of Children, Youth and Families. She wanted photos of adoptable children that stood apart from the typical ones shown to prospective parents, and organized a team of amateur and professional photographers to do it. The first Heart Gallery opened in Santa Fe., N.M. in 2001. About 15 cities in a dozen states will have Heart Gallery exhibits this year. More than 200 children have been adopted from Heart Gallery projects in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Florida, Maine and Connecticut. New Jersey experienced a 400 percent increase in adoption inquiries last year after its Heart Gallery opening.
